Bgbs_logo

Scotland's first ever all-day third sector social media conference, Social Media for Social Good, will take place on 26th April 2012 at The Albany Learning and Conference Centre, Glasgow.

The event will be packed with amazing talks and a selection of practical workshops, encompassing topics such as video for the web, better blogging, facebook and twitter tips, social media strategy, online fundraising and more.

We’re keen to keep the conference affordable so tickets will be under £100 – they’re going to be available via the GCVS website from 1st March onwards. I’ll let you know the full speaker and workshop line-up soon!

FED - an accessible alternative to TED comes to Edinburgh

9th July 2011, 1.30pm
Inspace, 1 Crichton Street, Edinburgh EH8 9AB

Can humans live sustainably? Can creative thinking be nurtured? What ideas are worth nurturing and sustaining? Realpolitik and Bella Caledonia present ‘FED - Ideas Worth Sustaining', a one-day program of talks, discussions, and, most importantly, ideas.

FED takes its cue from July’s TEDGlobal conference - but while TED costs an eye-watering £4,000 to attend, FED is a place of assembly genuinely open to all. Featuring presentations from creative thinkers and practitioners. Speakers include Gerry Hassan, Robin McAlpine, Lorna Waite and Kevan Shaw. There will also be an opportunity for the public to present ideas.

Activism vs. Slacktivism - @FairSay debate

Debate: Activism vs. Slacktivism

Does activism via digital channels work? It depends on who you ask. Join a debate of skeptics, realists and optimists exploring the impact of digital activism.

Overview

All activism depends on the belief and hope by participants that acting together will make a difference. With increasing debate and rhetoric around the influence and power of digital activism, what will the future be for this form of mobilisation if misinformed commentary or ill-conceived use of digital tools and networks attempt to undermine it?

The debate will challenge and provoke:

  • campaigners who are not using online mobilisation strategically and the debate will challenge them to up their game
  • skeptics of the power of digital activism and the debate will challenge them to learn how and when digital activism does work
